Show time in Vegas: International Pool & Spa Show, Oct. 31-Nov. 2

There’s something for just about every level of backyard construction and service at the International Pool, Spa and Patio Expo, taking place from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2 at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Bayside Halls D-F, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

With a seminar schedule so full that it had to be divided into educational tracks, there are courses on backyard design, constructions, and renovation; courses on landscape design, outdoor kitchens, and portable hot tubs; courses on retail store operation; courses on general business management, marketing, and customer service; and certainly, courses on pool service and repair.

It is an event that should not be missed for anyone who works in either the commercial or residential side of outdoor living.

That is because in addition to the seminar schedule, hands-on training is also provided on the exhibit hall floor. Want to learn how to boost your business? Check. How to properly apply tile? Check. How to detect leaks? Check. How to manage your retail store? Check. The list goes on and on.

And when you are not busy soaking up the show’s cutting edge formal education, it is nearly impossible not to receive an informal education just by walking the show.

Manufacturers and distributors of just about every product and service available within the pool and spa industry will be present, ready to answer questions and showcase their wares. See page 13 for a list of service and construction specialty exhibitors.

In addition to the show’s unsurpassed seminar schedule (see page 12 of this issue) the International Show also offers a wide range of multi-day certification courses designed by the American Pool and Spa Professionals (APSP), the American Shotcrete Association, Genesis Construction and Design Schools, the National Plasterer’s Council, and the National Swimming Pool Foundation. Certification courses (beginning Sunday, Oct. 28) require registration fees and an exam.

And don’t forget about making time for fun. In addition to Las Vegas’ casinos, resorts, live entertainment, shopping, and more, the International Pool, Spa and Patio Expo has planned a few events of their own.

APSP’s Wave Network Reception will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Border Grill in Mandalay Bay. It’s a chance to socialize with other young (under 40) pool industry professionals.

The welcome party is also scheduled for Wednesday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the ATM headquarters and will feature beer, wine, soft drinks, grilled hors d’oeuvre’s, and music.

The Genesis Winemaker dinner will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Canyon Gate Country Club. Join Winemaker Chris Benziger, of the Benziger Family Winery, for a 5-course wine-paired dinner and a once-a-year opportunity to connect with other Genesis members.

Pre-registration and fees apply to select events.
