Pool Industry Expo XXVII debuts Sept. 26-28 in Monterey, Calif.

For those in the Service Industry, the end of a long hot summer means that there is finally room for some downtime. And what better way to kick-off the off-season than a little sojourn in Monterey, Calif.?

In the swimming pool and spa industry, the Pool Industry Expo also marks the beginning of the educational season. Because of that, as well as the idyllic venue, the show has been called the “education vacation” for many years.

This year, the 27th annual event is scheduled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Sept. 26-28, and it is sure to be a good time.

A large part of the success of any venture is, as they say: location, location, location, and the P.I.E. show has got that in spades! Monterey is one of the world’s most beautiful destinations, featuring awe-inspiring seascapes, cypress dotted beaches, and home to adorable otters and barking sea lions.

The four-star Marriott Hotel headquarters is nothing to sneeze at either. The Marriott is located in the heart of historic downtown, within a short walk to a bowl of clam chowder at Fisherman’s Wharf or a stroll along the iconic Cannery Row.

Another thing the show has going for it is perfect timing. The show follows the close of the swim season, when service professionals have been most active and are ready for a break.

But the show also offers some excellent educational opportunities, with seminars on subjects ranging from running an independent service business, to installation and troubleshooting equipment, water chemistry and testing, as well as electricity. There are classes on heaters, pumps, motors, and filters. There’s new technology training, including automation. And there are seminars on taxes. All told, this year’s conference will include 47 educational and hands-on seminars.

These technical seminars are scheduled to run from 1-5 p.m. Thursday; 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday; and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

In addition, a 16-hour Certified Pool and Spa Operator course is also scheduled in connection with the event. The 2-day class is set for Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 25-26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The show’s giant exhibit hall will feature displays from major manufacturers and distributors. These exhibits will present the latest in pool and spa chemicals, tool, equipment, and accessories.

Representatives and industry experts will be on hand to talk shop about equipment and chemicals and anything else a service professional might desire.

Also in connection with the show, organizers are once again hosting a golf tournament. This year the tournament will take place at the Pasadera Country Club, the only Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course on the Monterey Peninsula. Golfers will tee off on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. Details and registration forms are available at the P.I.E. website.

This year, $2,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to lucky show goers. On both Thursday and Friday, a $500 prize will be given. On Saturday, a really lucky attendee will win $1,000. The winner must be present to claim the prize, so attenders should be sure to stick around.

In addition, on the final show day, a random drawing will result in someone winning a fabulous week long Hawaiian vacation for two, which includes airfare and accommodations.
