Service Industry News

For more than 29 years, Service Industry News has served as the voice of the pool and spa service professional. A twice monthly newspaper, the staff covers featured stories on equipment installation, trouble-shooting and repair; water chemistry and business issues facing the industry; and news pertaining to the interests of the pool and spa technician.

In addition to the newspaper, we have produced three technical books used throughout the industry as training and reference guides. The Professional Pool Technicians' Guide to ChlorineGuide to Alternative Sanitizers and the Guide to pH, Alkalinity, Water Testing and Water Balance are compiled from articles that originally appeared in our newspaper.

We've also updated and republished an industry classic on pool care, Charlie Taylor's Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Pool Care. This light, easy-to understand and illustrated book has long been a part of any complete library on pool care. Now, it's also available in Spanish!

2nd annual pool owner safety issue ready

May is National Drowning Prevention Month, a collaborative effort across the country to promote water safety. And this year, we invite pool and spa service professionals to get in on the action.

In honor National Drowning Prevention Month, Service Industry News has published a special Pool and Spa Owners Edition, to encourage aquatic safety and drowning awareness. A sample of the Pool and Spa Owners edition begins on page 5 of this issue. This information has also been published in a separate, dedicated newspaper for distribution to pool and spa owners.

In addition to providing national drowning statistics, the special pool & spa owners edition includes personal narratives, strategies and life-saving tools that can be used to prevent drowning this summer. Pool and spa service professionals can request free copies of the special Pool & Spa Owners Edition on drowning prevention to distribute to their customers.

It’s one more way to show your clients you care about them and their families. May marks the start of the swim season, but it also sadly marks an increase in the number of drowning tragedies across the U.S. The CDC reports that two thirds of all drownings occur in the summer months and most occur in residential pools.

The U.S. has an estimated 14 million residential pools, serviced by thousands of service professionals who can do their part to improve swimmer safety. According to industry experts in the Independent Pool and Spa Service Association, IPSSA members alone visit 375,000 swimming pools a week. These service professionals are all in a position to add layers of protection to swimming pools.

Pool and spa service professionals have the ability to stop drownings this year: every time a professional walks into a backyard presents an opportunity to save lives. Service technicians are aware of water safety concerns through their training and education.

Distributing the issue is an opportunity to share your knowledge with current as well as potential clients. Show your customers you care and distribute the Pool Owners Edition to all of your clients.

Service Industry News has published 10,000 copies of the Pool Owners Edition that includes only the drowning prevention stories that appear in this May 15 edition. We will you send any number of requested copies completely free of charge. For your copies of the Pool Owners Edition, email serviceindustrynewscd@ yahoo.com.

Service Industry News is committed to stopping drowning this year. Will you help?
