Arizona recreation center chlorine leak

Eleven people were treated for chlorine exposure after a chlorine leak was detected at a Maricopa, ArizonaRecCenterswimmingpool.

The incident occurred on December 7 at the Province Community Recreation Center. The Maricopa Fire Department responded to a report of multiple people having difficulty breathing.

Firefighters arrived to a distinct chlorine smell and turned the call into a HAZMAT situation.

Four people, including one firefighter, were transported to hospitals. The firefighter was treated and released. The three others were in stable condition.

Investigation as to what caused the chlorine leak is ongoing.
