AquaStar filters ideal for safety, hydraulics, access

AquaStar Pipeline Filters

were awarded the best residential filter and innovative product of 2022 by Pool Nation. After years of research and development, these filters have a lot of qualities to recommend them. Addressing key challenges often associated with filters, AquaStar’s Pipeline Filters are meticulously designed to enhance safety, ensure easy accessibility, optimize hydraulic performance, provide superior cleanability, and conserve space with a compact design.

Safety: Opening filters during servicing continues to be one of the causes of injury in the pool and spa industry. So, in engineering Pipeline Filters, the number one priority was to build a unit that was safe to get in and out of. The filter features a locking safe-release collar. This allows for easy and safe depressurization, all while keeping the filter locked. So even if you forget to turn off the pump or use the air-relief valve, the filter will stay locked as it depressurizes. The worst that could happen? You might just get your shoes wet.

Ease of Access: The filter’s locking safe-release collar also make the filter easy to open. After following the included instructions to prepare to open the filter, to open the filter’s locking collar, complete the following steps: Using the large locking ring handles, reach under each with your fingers and pull the springloaded filter locks into the unlocked position. While holding the locks open, forcefully rotate the Locking Ring counterclockwise 1/8 turn and then release the lock and the large handles. This will begin the process of decompressing the O-ring. Move your hands to the small handles and continue to rotate another quarter turn. This will continue to decompress the O-ring while lifting the lid. Move your hands to the large handles again and rotate another quarter turn. This will fully decompress the O-ring, allowing the locking ring to rotate to the second safety stop. Reach under the large handles with your fingers and pull the spring-loaded filter locks into the unlocked position again and then finish rotating the last quarter turn. The lid can now be lifted off.

Another great feature about the lid removal is it has a quad-thread lid assembly with a lot of open space between the threads, so that it will release any debris that might get between the threads and won’t lock or freeze up.

Improved Hydraulics: The Pipeline filter comes in two models. The PLF35000 features a 250-square-foot filter and can provide a maximum flow rate of 200 GPM; the PLF27000 features a 200-square-foot filter, providing a maximum flow rate of 150 GPM.

To help achieve this flow and provide best in class filtration the filter features engineered pleat spacing, 64% larger core openings than competing filters, and patented uniform tank design for more uniform flow from bottom to top.

The PLF27000 unit is rated for a 27,000-gallon commercial pool with a 6-hour turnover. For residential pools, it can handle 108,000 gallons with a 12-hour turnover. The PLF35000 is rated for a 35,000-gallon commercial pool with a 6-hour turnover. It can filter up to 144,000-gallon residential pools with a 12-hour turnover.

These filters continue to outperform even after the first cleaning of the filter and cartridge element. Head loss in a Pipeline Filter only increases by 2% after cleaning according to instructions (up to 50% is allowed for NSF certification). Less head loss at the filter provides less stress on the pump, saving energy and money.

Cleanability: Pipeline Filters passed the NSF water clarity (turbidity reduction) test with just one pass, compared to most cartridge filters, which need up to 5 passes to clean the water. That makes them comparable to DE filters, which are capable of cleaning 98 percent of water in 1 pass, and 4 times better than any other cartridge on the market.

Small Footprint: The filter takes up minimal space. Just under 20 inches wide, the PLF27000 is 38 5/8 inches tall, while the PLF35000 is 46 1/8 inches tall.
