Jack’s Magic and Haviland for pool stains

Do you have a stain or scaling issue in any of your swimming pools or spas? If so, there are some products you might want to check out.

Jacks Magic

Try Jack’s Magic — service pros swear by it.

The Jack’s Magic Three Step Program was developed for a quick, easy, and effective way to remove stains and scaling and to prevent any issues from returning to your customers’ pools. Follow the steps below to save time and money and to keep your swimming pools and spas sparkling clean.

To use the Jack’s Magic Stain Identification kit, begin by ensuring that the water is properly balanced for stain identification and removal. The stain ID kit employs a series of topical tests to determine which of Jack’s Magic products will remove the stain. A small amount of product is applied to a portion of the stain. It is best to test in the shallow end, steps or swim-outs, but the deep end will work provided the water is calm and not circulating. Within seconds of application, removal or reaction with the stain should occur.

Steps 1. Balance water to above specifications.

2. Turn the pump off and allow water to calm.

3. For easily accessible stains, ID product may be applied directly to stain. For walls and floor, ID product should be poured into nylon hosiery or similar material and allowed to sit on the stain for 30-45 seconds. Do not mix stain ID products in hosiery or in another container.

4. Apply ½ packet Stain Solution #1. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds. (iron, cobalt, and spot etching).

5. Apply ½ packet Stain Solution #2. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds. (copper and scale).

6. Apply ½ packet Stain Solution O2 Safe Shock. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds, then brush away. Follow with 1/3 packet of Stain Solution #2.

7. Apply 1/3 packet of Stain Solution #2. Let it sit for 30-45 seconds then brush away. Follow with ½ packet of Stain Solution # 1. Let sit for 30-45 seconds.

Jack’s Magic Stain Identification Kit is designed to take all the guesswork out of stain removal. Once you’ve determined which treatment worked the best, you can proceed to treat the pool.

The company always suggests that you begin with a Stain Identification Kit before proceeding to a treatment. Though you may be sure that it’s an iron problem, it could be one of two different products (or a combination of products) that will help lift the stain. The kit saves a lot of time and guesswork by allowing you to see how well each product will work in the pool environment.

Spot Stain Chalk

One new option for removing surface stains from metals as well as organic stains from leaves and debris is Spot Stain Chalk, from Haviland Pool Products, a puck that is considered safe for all hard surfaces, including plaster, vinyl, tile, concrete, and fiberglass.

Its available as a 9-ounce tablet that can be dried and reused. According to the material safety data sheet, its composition is mostly (60 to 70 percent) a trade secret, and it also contains ethanedioic acid, calcium and citric acid.

Directions For Stains Below Water: Wearing gloves, gently rub Spot Stain Chalk directly onto the surface stain to build up a layer of stain- removing chalk. Most stains will dissipate shortly after contact. If needed, use a nylon brush or similar non-abrasive pad to help lift stains.

Alternative Method: Place Spot Stain Chalk directly onto the stain but for no more than 5 minutes at a time, checking stain occasionally. Once stain has lifted, remove this product. Older and difficult stains may need to be treated with a sequestering agent prior to use.

A sequestering agent should be used after removal of stains to prevent stains from reappearing.

Directions For Stains Above Water: Apply a small amount of water onto area being treated. Gently rub Spot Stain Chalk onto wetted stain to form a paste. Most stains will dissipate shortly after contact. Brush treated area as needed. Rinse after 1 minute and repeat process as needed. Do not allow rinsed material to dry on hard surfaces.
