A Virginia firefighter was treated and released for minor burns sustained while fighting a house fire that is believed to have originated in the hot tub.
The fire took place on May 17 in Albemarle, about 40 miles east of Charlotte.
Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and fire at the residence.
“When the fire started, six residents were home and successfully selfevacuated after being alerted by their smoke alarms.
They received a medical evaluation at the scene,” according to a statement issued by the Albemarle County Fire Rescue.
No other injuries were reported, but the family was displaced from their home and the family dog was missing.
The Albemarle fire marshal is investigating the cause of a possible electrical or mechanical failure of a hot tub.
Most electrical fires are caused by faulty electrical outlets and old, outdated appliances. Other fires are started by faults in appliance cords, receptacles and switches.
