June 2025 delivered an unlikely trilogy of crashes, as three separate vehicles plunged into swimming pools across three states in just under three weeks.

No one was seriously injured, but the incidents drew crowds and left more than a few tire marks where no one expected them.

Putnam County, West Virginia, June 1, late on a Saturday morning, drivers along Interstate 64 eastbound near Cow Creek may have noticed more than the usual construction delay. In a jarring detour, one vehicle exited the roadway entirely, barreled through a neighborhood, and landed in someone’s backyard swimming pool.

A state trooper stationed at the nearby construction zone, along with a paramedic supervisor from Putnam County EMS, pulled the driver from the submerged car before fire crews arrived.

The driver was hospitalized. The car was later removed from the pool with the help of Hurricane Fire and Rescue and the local police department.

Houston, Texas — June 6, five days later, in southwest Houston, the start of summer took a surreal turn at the Woodland Estates mobile home community. Residents had just kicked off the season with an evening pool party when a Nissan Rogue crashed through a brick wall and landed in the pool where children and families were swimming. Witnesses said they heard a loud bang, initially mistaking it for gunfire. Then came the screaming and the scramble out of the water as the SUV sank.

One neighbor told a local news source, “It was just crazy. Little kids in an opening of a pool party of a community is just crazy.”

The driver, suspected of being intoxicated, was taken into custody. Though no injuries were reported, the pool is now closed, and neighbors are still processing what happened.

Biloxi, Mississippi, June 19, the third incident arrived with less drama, but no less surprise. On a Thursday night, a two-vehicle collision on Highway 90 sent a Biloxi Police cruiser off the road and straight into an empty swimming pool at the Flamingo Beach Inn.

Hotel guests and bystanders caught the aftermath on video: the cruiser resting at the bottom of the drained pool and a wrecker lifting it back out. No one was injured, and the investigation is ongoing.

They say bad things come in threes. This month, the old superstition showed up poolside.
