Two men led police on a high-speed chase after stealing an above-ground pool from a North Carolina Walmart.

Jeremy Wayne Rogers and Kale Rigsbee were accused of stealing the Coleman 18-foot pool, valued at $448, from the Whiteville Walmart on July 24.

Following the theft, responding officers from the Columbus County police department attempted to pull over a car matching the description of the vehicle involved in the theft. Deputies said that Rogers, who was driving, began to pull over, but then drove off again.

Police followed the vehicle to a woodline at a private property, where both men got out.

Rogers escaped into the woods on foot, while Rigsbee was arrested at the scene and charged with both felony and misdemeanor larceny.

Rogers was arrested six days later and charged with the following:

• Felony larceny by anti-inventory device.

• Misdemeanor larceny.

• Felony eluding arrest with a motor vehicle.

• Misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger.

• Misdemeanor speeding.

• Misdemeanor driving with a revoked license.

According to reports, the men were able to steal the pool by using a leadlined bag that prevented activation of the store’s anti-shoplifting devices.
