A February 2 civil lawsuit was filed in Michigan following the drowning death of a teenager at a crowded backyard pool party last summer, a case that investigators previously determined did not warrant criminal charges.

The lawsuit centers on the death of 15-year-old Timmie Favorite Jr., who drowned on July 5, 2025, during a large gathering at a home in Carrollton Township, near Saginaw, Michigan. Authorities say the party drew dozens of teenagers and young adults to a private residence with a backyard swimming pool.

Police were first dispatched to the neighborhood around 6:30 p.m. after receiving complaints about loud music and parking congestion. Officers spoke with the homeowner, who said a party was underway and expected to end later that evening.

Less than an hour later, police were called back to the property for a report of a missing teen who may have entered the pool and never resurfaced. When officers returned, they found a chaotic scene with approximately 100 minors present and no adults immediately supervising the pool area.

Firefighters and police began searching the backyard pool. The water conditions complicated the effort.

Police said the teen was eventually discovered at the bottom of the deep end of the pool, which was approximately 12 feet deep. Authorities reported that the water was so cloudy that the bottom could not be seen from the surface.

Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures after the teen was brought to the surface, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators later determined the cause of death was accidental drowning. The Saginaw County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the death an accident, and toxicology tests found that the teen had no drugs or alcohol in his system.

Prosecutors also reviewed witness accounts and video evidence recorded during the party. According to the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s Office, one video clip showed the teen being pushed into the pool during horseplay. Investigators concluded there was “no malice or ill intent” associated with the incident.

Although prosecutors declined to pursue criminal charges related to the drowning, the teen’s family has now filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the homeowner, Trisha Alcock, who allegedly hosted the gathering.

The civil complaint, filed in Saginaw County Circuit Court, alleges that the homeowner failed to maintain safe conditions around the pool and allowed a large underage party to take place without adequate supervision.

According to reporting on the case, the lawsuit claims the pool had not been properly treated, leaving the water murky and preventing people from seeing the bottom. The suit also alleges the property lacked safety measures such as lifeguards, warning signs, or visible depth markers.

The gathering itself was reportedly promoted online and drew a large crowd.

Investigators said alcohol and marijuana were present at the party.

Police said many attendees initially believed the teen had simply left the party. However, when his phone and wallet were found still at the house, the search intensified and eventually focused on the pool.

An off-duty firefighter ultimately located the teen’s body during the underwater search of the pool.

The lawsuit alleges negligence and gross negligence and seeks damages on behalf of the teen’s estate and parents.

Separately, the homeowner has faced a misdemeanor citation for violating the township’s open-house party ordinance, and a bench warrant was issued after she failed to appear in court.

As of recent reporting, the civil case remains in its early stages.

Meanwhile, the loss continues to reverberate through the local school community. Timmie Favorite Jr., a student in the Saginaw Public Schools District, was remembered by educators and classmates as a talented athlete and promising young student.

School administrators described the tragedy as a devastating loss for the community and the many people who knew him.
