PHTA welcomes all aquatic professionals

The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance ( PHTA) is one of the most influential organizations in the pool and spa industry, offering service professionals a meaningful investment in credibility and longterm business growth.

Formed in 2019 through the merger of the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) and the National Swimming Pool Foundation (NSPF), PHTA unified two longstanding industry pillars into a single voice. Today, it represents thousands of companies worldwide and traces its roots to the mid-20th century, making it both the largest and one of the oldest trade organizations. Headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, PHTA includes builders, service companies, retailers, manufacturers, distributors, and commercial operators — spanning virtually every segment of the industry.

PHTA exists to “protect, promote, and advance” the industry. Advocacy is central, with representation at federal, state, and local levels on issues such as energy regulations, safety laws, and water-use policies — giving service professionals a voice in decisions that directly affect daily operations.

Education and certification are equally important. PHTA administers widely recognized training programs and credentials, with member discounts often saving hundreds per course. The result is better trained technicians, fewer service errors, and a stronger professional image.

As an ANSI-accredited standards developer, PHTA creates and maintains many of the industry’s technical and safety standards. Members receive access — including a complimentary digital standard each year — and can participate in committees, gaining early insight into evolving requirements.

PHTA also offers business tools, including market research, benchmarking data, and reports such as the Market Report and Economic Impact Study. Workforce support includes the Work in Aquatics Job Board with unlimited postings and apprenticeship initiatives to develop future technicians.

Additional benefits include awards programs, networking through councils, committees, and WAVE, and involvement in safety initiatives such as National Water Safety Month and Step Into Swim. Consumer resources further help members differentiate themselves.

Annual dues for service companies start around $618, with tiered pricing and lower-cost individual options.

For service professionals, PHTA provides advocacy, education, and resources that support a more competitive, informed, and connected business.
