Worker electrocuted while repairing hot tub

Acontractor was electrocuted while attempting to repair a hot tub in a Life Time Fitness in Phoenix, Arizona.

Phoenix police and fire crews responded at approximately 10:30 p.m. on June 28 to find the man already deceased in the hot tub that was mostly drained of water and had live wires exposed.

Arizona Public Service crews were called to the scene to shut off the power to the entire building so first responders could safely enter the hot tub. Club members were evacuated from the building. Members said they heard a loud noise before workers told them that they needed to get out of the facility.

The fitness center was closed for hours during the investigation into what led to the man’s death.

A spokesperson with Life Time issued the following statement regarding the incident: “I can confirm that we experienced a medical incident late Wednesday evening, resulting in the fatality of a professional contractor who was performing maintenance work on non-functioning equipment in the indoor aquatics area. The incident currently is under investigation by authorities and the cause of the fatality remains unconfirmed. Therefore, as I hope you can appreciate, no additional details are available at this time. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

An investigation is ongoing. The contractor’s identity was not released.
