Reader responds to Service Industry News Aug. 15 VGBA story

This letter is from Hassan Hamza President of Vacless Systems Inc., in Canoga Park, California. .

I am writing to agree with you on the importance of our congress in taking charge in the VGBA renewal!! And also to correct some misleading information in your news article “Congress considers renewing VGBA, dated August 15, 2023.

First, I added two exclamation marks (!!) next to the word “renewal” to express my dislikes of the idea of CONSIDERING renewals to a safety matter!!!

Second, The VGB Act does not only mandate the installation of drain covers manufactured per ANSI/ ASME A112.19.8 standard but also mandates the installation of Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) manufactured per ANSI/ASME A112.19.17 standard on pools or spas equipped with single main drains.

Your article issued on August 15, 2023, regarding “Congress Considering Renewing VGBA” is misleading the pool’s service professionals that in order to be compliant with the act, installation of only the covers is good enough.

In this case your highly respected paper may be, inadvertently, misleading its readers to proceed with the wrong information into safeguarding their recreational facilities.

Please consider a correction to this article.

Thank you Hassan. We will contact the Pool Hot Tub Alliance to address a correction. Please look for it in an upcoming issue.
