Chemical explosion injures service tech

A pool service employee was injured in a chemical explosion.

The identity of the man was not released; however, it was confirmed the worker was an employee of LaBella’s Pool Service in Hayward, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. The man was transported to a trauma center with chemical burns following the hazardous materials incident that occurred on November 10.

The City of Alameda Fire Department responded to reports of an explosion and arrived at the scene just after 9 a.m. The Alameda County HazMat Team was also on the scene assisting. Photos posted on social media by the fire department showed first responders outside of what appeared to be an apartment complex. Residents in area were advised to shelter in place.

The man’s current condition has not been reported.
