Chem exposure sends 5 to hospital
Several patrons at a residential community swimming pool in Apache Junction, Arizona, were sent to the hospital following a hazardous materials incident involving chlorine exposure. Emergency crews, including a Hazmat team, responded to the June 14 scene after 5 individuals (including 4 children) began experiencing symptoms consistent with chemical overexposure.
Multiple people were reportedly coughing due to a substance from the swimming pool.
Officials did not disclose the exact cause of the chemical exposure.
Because of the number of people involved, the incident was categorized as a second-alarm hazmat situation.
Following the incident, the affected individuals were conscious and in stable condition.
