Summer is just around the corner, and that means lots of splashing, swimming, and fun!
But with all that excitement comes a big responsibility: keeping families safer around all kinds of water. That’s why the NDPA has created a Water Safety Season Toolkit—and it’s packed with easy-to-use resources just for you, whether you’re a parent, a caregiver, or a homeowner with a pool.
The toolkit is designed with your family’s safety in mind, helping to equip you with the knowledge and resources needed to take proactive steps in preventing tragedies.
Why Should Water Safety Be Your #1 Priority
This is a tough topic, but it’s critical: according to the CDC, drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4.
For kids ages 5-9, it’s the second leading cause of unintentional injury death and remains a leading cause for teens and into adulthood.
Water safety is for all ages and includes all water.
By leveraging the toolkit’s comprehensive resources, we can work together towards a future where ALL are safer in and around ALL water.
Inside The NDPA Water Safety ToolKit?
The toolkit has some fantastic resources you can use right away:
• Make Swimming the First Sport: Check out the NDPA First Sport Campaign and even submit your own First Sport Story. NDPA’s “talking babies” share a crucial message: learning to swim is the first sport children should master to stay safer in and around the water. Swimming is a lifesaving sport. This PSA also shares the NDPA’s 5 layers of protection — essential knowledge for every parent and pool owner.
• Easy Sharing on Social Media: Want to spread the word to your friends and neighborhood? The toolkit includes a social media calendar with engaging videos, captivating photos, and ready-touse captions and hashtags. Sharing critical safety messages has never been easier! Thank you for helping us reach and impact more families.
• Help for Everyone: Recognizing that water safety messages need to reach everyone, the toolkit includes bilingual resources, including the layers of protection video and some printable materials in both English and Spanish.
• Printable Materials: For those who prefer physical resources, the toolkit offers a printable library of resources, including informative brochures and posters. These are perfect for putting up by your pool, a coffee shop, library or sharing at the local community center.
• Additional PSAs: You can also find, use, and share the powerful ‘Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning’ PSAs.
